I'm Sean, Meag's husband. I'm here to tell my side of the story. I met Meag in 1999. We had mutual friends and went to different schools, but we never dated. In fact, my best friend dated her. That's how I met her. We all went to a school dance together; I took her best friend and she went with mine. For the record, still friends with the best friend. We stayed friends throughout high school and when she left for college we stayed in touch. It wasn't until she came back home to finish college that we started to date. I think it was 2005. I'm kidding. I remember. It was January 1st 2005 to be exact. I was her new years resolution. I figured if I didn't tie her down quick someone would steal her away. I asked and she said
maybe. I begged a few more times and got her to marry me in 2006. I adore my wife. She is the best at everything she does. Wife, mother, and friend. We've been married now almost 10 years and have two beautiful kids. Jack is 7 and Lucy is 3.
Oh, and two pain in the ass dogs, Abbi and Scout.
I got into firefighting after I graduated high school in 2002. I had a couple jobs working as either a volunteer or a paid on call firefighter. I've always been a firefighter as far as Meag knows. It was probably worse for her during the first part of our relationship because I still had a full time "Joe Job" and was working extra hours for the fire department. Once I was hired full time in 2007, things were a lot easier. I was home a lot more because I didn't have
to work 3 jobs. The fire service has been great to us. It is something that means more to me than words can explain. I'm a 4th generation firefighter. I always had the interest growing up. My Grandpa who is retired from the same department I work for always tells me "You don't know any better, but you don't know any worse either". I know it isn't easy for Meag for me to be gone a couple nights of the week, especially now that we have kids. I feel like I wouldn't be who I am now if it weren't for the fire department.
The fire service definitely takes its toll on relationships and it is not a walk in the park. We make it work. Being a firefighter is rough on a marriage, you need the support of an awesome spouse. I am blessed to have that with Meag. She is definitely the best part of me and I am excited to see her putting this blog together.
